Accessibility statement
A website for every resident.
Whether you are 13 or 80, use a screen reader, need larger text or read on a small phone, this website should work for you. Here is how well it does, and where it still falls short.
The standard we follow
This website aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, the international standard for accessible websites.
For text, we aim higher than that, because many of our readers are older or read on small phones:
- Reading text, labels and controls have a contrast of at least 7 to 1 against their background, and large headings at least 4.5 to 1.
- Text is never smaller than 14 pixels, and ordinary reading text is 18 pixels.
This statement will be confirmed by a full accessibility audit before the new website goes live.
What is built in
- Bigger text, one tap away. The A · A+ · A++ buttons at the top of every page (in the menu on phones) make all the text larger. Your choice is remembered on your device.
- Works with a keyboard. Every link, button and form can be used with the Tab and Enter keys. A "Skip to content" link comes first on every page, and the item you are on is always clearly outlined.
- Less movement. Press Pause motion, a button in the top bar of every page (in the menu on phones), or the one here. The slideshow, the moving photographs, the photo strip on the gallery page and the scroll stories stop, with everything shown at once. Your choice is remembered on your device. If your device is set to reduce motion, nothing moves to begin with.
- Clear forms. Every field has a label. Required fields say "(required)" in words. If something is missing, the message says what to fix and takes you to it.
- Never colour alone. A status such as "In review" or "Not approved" is always written in words, not shown only by a colour.
- Big targets. Buttons and links are at least 44 by 44 pixels, so they are easy to tap. Links inside a sentence are the size of the text around them.
- Phones, tablets and laptops. Pages fit any screen from a small phone to a wide monitor, and never scroll sideways.
- Pictures described. Photographs that carry information have a short description for screen readers. Purely decorative photographs are skipped.
- Plain language. Pages are written in short, everyday sentences.
What is not finished yet
We would rather tell you than let you find out:
- Some older documents you can download, such as scanned ordinances and forms, are pictures of text that a screen reader cannot read. Ask us and we will give you the document in a form you can use.
- The Chat with us assistant gives set answers. If it can't help, it points you to Send us a message.
- The website is in English only for now.
- Pages are written by barangay staff, so a single page may occasionally fall short. Please tell us when one does.
Get help or report a problem
