Barangay Kagawad (council members)

Secretary and Treasurer

In plain words

How the barangay works

The barangay is the government closest to you. Under the Local Government Code (Republic Act 7160) it has four parts that work together.

The Punong Barangay leads

The Punong Barangay runs the barangay day to day, carries out its ordinances and presides over the council.

The council decides

The Sangguniang Barangay — the Punong Barangay, seven Kagawad and the SK Chairperson — passes ordinances and resolutions and approves the budget.

Committees look after the details

Each Kagawad chairs committees that study proposals and follow up on their part of barangay life, from peace and order to seniors.

Staff keep the records

The Secretary keeps the records and minutes; the Treasurer handles collections and funds. Both are appointed with the council's agreement.
