Urgent Water Advisory

Water Conservation Tips

Due to the water shortage crisis that we are facing, there is a very urgent need for everyone to conserve water.

Do not let water run while…

- Washing dishes

- Washing fruits and vegetables. Wash fruits and vegetables in a bowl, reuse the water for watering plants

- Thawing frozen meat. Thaw meat in the refrigerator overnight

- Soaking dirty pans and pots, soak and scrape it clean before washing

- Brushing your teeth, use a cup to rinse

- Showering or shaving

- Check faucets, toilets, water pipes for leaks and repair it.

Water and Cost Saving Tips

- Take shorter 5 minute showers or use a pail and dipper for bathing

- Reuse laundry rinse to wash the car, clean the garage, maintain sidewalks, or flush the toilet

- Use a pail and cotton rag when washing your car. Do not use a running hose and sponge

- Water the plants early in the morning or in the evening when the temperature is cooler to minimize water loss

- Use pail and dipper instead of sprinklers when watering plants

- Install an automatic valve to avoid water tanks from spilling when they become full

- Refrain from using the washing machine if washing only a few clothes. Do full loads of laundry, and use just the right amount of detergent to avoid extra rinsing

- Immediately report any unabated leaks to MWSS Regulatory Office at 8922-2969 and to the Manila Water Hotline 1627.

Tips were taken from the MWSS website and Rappler and various websites promoting water conservation.
